The articles featured in the 2025, Issue 2 of the Istanbul Journal of Sports Law address significant developments in the field of sports law at both national and international levels, providing analyses from the perspective of different legal systems. The first article examines in detail the types of decisions issued by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, briefly referred to as "CAS", located in Lausanne. The second article evaluates rulings issued in response to applications submitted to the Ombudsman Institution, claiming violations of freedom of expression in football disciplinary proceedings. This study illustrates how the rights of athletes and clubs to freedom of expression are assessed in the Turkish Football Federation's first-instance disciplinary committees and the TFF Arbitration Board, highlighting circumstances in which freedom of expression is deemed violated. It further demonstrates that the Ombudsman Institution, in some cases, issues recommendations comparable in quality to decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). This article also draws significant implications for Turkish sports law practices based on the Ombudsman Institution's rulings. Additionally, this issue includes summaries and commentary on selected decisions issued by the Canadian Sport Dispute Resolution Centre in 2024-2025. These summaries and commentaries present concrete examples of the effective operation of voluntary arbitration and mediation services provided by the Dispute Resolution Center of Canada in a range of sports-related disputes. This issue also presents two separate compilations of court decisions. The first compilation consists of decisions from first- and higher-instance Turkish courts concerning the impact of CAS arbitration clauses on cases pending before Turkish courts. The second compilation focuses on the Constitutional Court's decision dated 17 June 2025, regarding the annulment of supplementary Article 1 of Law No. 5894 on the Establishment and Duties of the Turkish Football Federation, which addresses the blocking of access by the Turkish Football Federation to unlawfully published online broadcasts of football matches. This ruling constitutes a significant precedent in both sports law and information technology law.(FROM THE EDITOR)
